Multicolumn sort server side processing

Is it possible to do multicolumn sort with server processing? The ajax call is fired each time you click on a column heading. Even if I hold the shift key only one sort column is sent in the data table query parameters.

iSortCol_0:4
sSortDir_0:asc
iSortingCols:1
