DataTables with indentation for certain nodes

My data is conceptually a table. However, most of my table entries can have subentries that need to be indented and shown as "children" of this table. Like a tree table.

I know it's not possible out of the box. Does anyone have specific ideas on how one could achieve this?

Add an additional datatable somehow? I've never used DataTables -- but it fits all my needs except this tree view functionality.
