The number one feature that I would find most useful in Editor is quick'n'ease form validation.
I know about the validation example: https://editor.datatables.net/release/DataTables/extras/Editor/examples/clientValidation.html
However, in my opinion that is a bit low-level for what I suspect is a common task.
I think a fairly small set of canned tests for really common validation plus a few generic solutions would handle most cases:
- Numeric range or perhaps separate min/max
- Text length (possibly with an optional whitespace trim)
- Field required or not
- isAlpha, isAlphaNum, isPrintable
- regex match
- Provide your own validate function
- Warn values vs. mandatory values. Man that would have saved time. e.g. entering "1900" for birthyear may get an "Are you sure?" whereas entering "201" would get "Invalid entry".
A real-world example: in our manufacturing databases, when an engineer enters an unusual requirement, it may be a typo 80% of the time, but we do a lot of R&D so if they really do want to use a temperature of 5000°K instead of the usual 500, they are allowed after confirmation. (I found it tricky to do this and store the confirmation status reliably).
Another real-world: When entering a new manufacturing process, 99% of the time it starts with the letter 'C' indicating the fab being used. Occasionally, someone may need enter 'B' (the old, shut-down fab) to store a record of an old process, but they should be warned that such an entry may be a typo before committing it to the database.
I use a third and fourth level server-side: Hard-coded limits for 3rd and, of course, database constraints for 4th and final.

When using 4-button pagination, I'd like to communicate FIRST, LAST, NEXT and PREV with icons.
Is there a way to tell the plugin to refrain from injecting the equivalent text strings?
(Yeah, I know I can target the anchor tags with Jquery and omit the text - shown below - but that feels like a bad surgeon wielding an axe.)

I'm using Twitter Bootstrap X-Editable (demo http://vitalets.github.com/x-editable/demo.html) plugin with DataTables. But when ever I updated the value of one the cells through X-Editable the filter seems doesn't recognize the change. Is there a way for the DataTables to recognize the change in data?

I am new with DataTables. I have now a datatabel with data from a mysql db and with Ajax request
Now I try to edit table data and want then to update also in a mysql db
The inline edit and save works fine. I did is like in this example

To make an easy update later in the MySQl db I would like to do this with thew unique ID from the row.
In the moment I load the ID in the first column of my table. But this is not so nice because the user do not want to see the internal ID. It is not helpful for him.
But when I try to disable the first column like;

I'm currently investigating a browser-freezing problem when using a large number of columns. I'm having a bit of trouble where to look because I'm rather new to browser/JS profiling.
However, I *think* what's happening is that the browser chokes on reflow. Because many of the bottlenecks are single statements - they are getting or setting sizes. Which I presume cause a storm of recomputations for something as complex as a table with so much columns. Maybe there's also a possible influence from the Scroller add-on (release 1.2.0) ?
For a smaller number of columns there seems to be no problem.
Is this a problem already familiar to somebody in here ?
Or any hint what alternatives I can try ? Preferably by maintaining that many columns. :-)

I think that if you are using individual column filtering this plugin can help you because it is realy easy to use it. As an example, to apply default filtering you will need just a following line of code:
This code adds simple text filters in the footer of the table.
There are lot of configuration parameters you can send to the add-on please see more exmples on the http://jquery-datatables-column-filter.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/index.html .

i've a performance issue with a DataTable that does not exceed the recommendations of 5000 records. It is a simple table width a dom-table as datasource. The zero-configuration with 2000 items is very fast (under my hardware-configuration: 800ms), also with bPaginate=false. But if i use html (span, a, etc.) in a td, the datatable slow down (1600ms). Not very fast, but ok. But if i enabe sScrollY and bScrollCollapse, the table needs more than 4000ms to render.
My questions:
1. Why html in a td slow down the datatable? Maybe internal type detection or text extraction?
2. Why is sScrollY so slow and how can i make it faster? Scroller or bPaginate=true are no options.

SDom custom toolbar, buttons not toggling
I have a custom toolbar showing in my dataTable that has a few bootstrap buttons. The buttons show and do what I want them to but they should toggle (so if one is clicked, the others are not) but for some reason mine all stayed showing as clicked. I'm not sure if I have to do something so they don't show as clicked if I click a different one or not. Here is some of my code:

makes the toolbar show using the above built html.....

I used what I could find in your documentation to form this. Like I said, it does function but the buttons don't toggle. Any ideas?

Uncaught TypeError : Cannot read property 'mData' of undefined
This is mvc 4 application with razor view. I made sure only single instance of jquery is loaded. BTW is jquery 1.9.0 compatible with dataTables 1.1 beta? This is my first time using dataTable.
